What was Market Yourself?

Market Yourself was an employability course that aimed to equip unemployed job seekers with the necessary skills to independently search and apply for jobs and effectively promote themselves to potential employers.

Who did Market Yourself help?

The project offered practical advice and support to people aged 25 and over who had been unemployed for a period of six months or more. The course carried an NOCN Level 1 accreditation.

What types of support were available through Market Yourself?

Market Yourself offered a wide range of practical advice and support to guide learners through the full job application process. This support covered:

  • CV writing

  • Cover letter writing

  • Job searching (identifying and navigating job sites)

  • Completing job applications

  • Preparing for interviews (what to wear, answering common interview questions)

  • Confidence and resilience

Learners were also taught how to set up an email account to use for job applications, how to use Universal Job Match and how to create a budgeting plan using Microsoft Excel.

In addition, on the final day of delivery, learners were given the opportunity to put their newly gained skills into practice by attending a formal mock job interview, after which constructive feedback was provided.

Upon completion, learners were provided with a portfolio, which highlighted any potential gaps that Jobcentre Plus Advisors may have wanted to review.

The project also engaged with potential employers to encourage them to create employment opportunities for active job seekers.

What was the impact of Market Yourself?

Between December 2013 and March 2018, 1,351 learners completed the Market Yourself course.
