Johnny's success story

Johnny was referred to Actes Trust by Middlesbrough Job Centre as part of a Sector-Based Work Academy, after finding himself out of work for the first time in his life, having taken the difficult decision to give up his job in Leeds so that he could be closer to his Dad, who was terminally ill.

how we helped

Upon joining the Sector-Based Work Academy, Johnny began shadowing staff on the Talent Match programme and gained valuable insight into the world of youth work and life coaching. Having previously never worked in the charity or youth sectors, this was an eye opening but enjoyable experience for Johnny. So much so that he commenced volunteering with Actes once the academy came to an end.

After volunteering for 3 months on the Market Yourself project, where Johnny supported learners with updating their CV's, a full-time Youth Advocate on the newly starting New Directions Youth Employment Initiative. Johnny applied for and secured the role and quickly settled in, supporting over 140 young people into employment, education or training within a 2 year period.

During the second delivery phase of the New Directions programme, Johnny was appointed as the New Directions Team Leader and oversaw the delivery of a programme that achieved all outcomes related targets.

Today, Johnny is still employed by Actes Trust as the organisation's Employability and Development Team Leader, where is heavily involved in writing funding bids on behalf of the organisation as well as managing aspects of social media, marketing and communications.

In johnny's words...

"My journey here highlights the crucial impact volunteering can have on a person's life. Without Actes Trust's commitment to supporting volunteers, my career would look very different. I've been given the freedom and encouragement to grow into each role at Actes Trust and have been well supported along my development journey."
